What will be in the assessment?

Under the club rules on successful completion of the assessment you can:

• Paddle on your own;

• Participate on club trips on moving water.

I therefore need to be confident that you will be safe to do both. What I will be looking for is that:

• You have good control of your boat;

• You are aware of and understand hazards and dangers you may face.

The first bit will be going on the water and me observing:

• Confident forward paddling with good awareness of what is going on around you;

• Turning, stopping, backwards paddling;

• Moving the boat sideways (draw strokes)

• Preventing capsize (low brace support).

The second bit will be covered in a short written test.
